OTST 572 The Book of Daniel

About the Course

An expository study of the Book of Daniel, including introductory information, the genre and structure of the book, and different approaches to the book. The study of each chapter will include a contextual exposition taking into consideration the theology of the book, enabling the
student to prepare sermons and other materials related to the book.

Course Outcomes

  1. Understand the different trends about the book of Daniel among the Adventist, evangelical,
    and critical scholars and evaluate them in the light of the whole Scriptures and EGW
    writings.
  2. Explain the different approaches to the book of Daniel and its authorship.
  3. Understand the presuppositions of the different methods used in the interpretation of the
    book of Daniel.
  4. Know the historical background, the genre, and the structure of the main sections of the
    Book.
  5. Manage an adequate historical-grammatical analysis in order to get the main topics of the
    Book.
  6. Identify the different topics and prophecies in the book and apply them in the
    comprehension of its theological themes.
  7. Be familiar with the prophecies of Daniel and their relevance for the Church today.

HECTOR O. MARTIN F., Ph.D.

Dr. Hector Martin joined the faculty of the AIIAS Theological Seminary as assistant professor of New Testament Studies. He finished his BA in Theology in Seminario Teológico Adventista, Venezuela, MA Education (Universidad de Montermorelos, Mexico, and PhD (Adventist International Institute for Advanced Studies, Philippines in 2012. He has published several academic book reviews for JAAS and the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL). He has also been involved as an editor in a variety of book publications and journals. Dr. Hector Martin, born in Venezuela on July 9, 1956 and is happily married to Bileidis Angelica. The couple is blessed with two sons and two grandsons.

CARLOS ELIAS MORA, PhD

Dr. Carlos Mora had been a professor of Old Testament and Biblical Languages at AIIAS in October 2009. As a professor of AIIAS, he was involved in the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist church and wrote many academic articles and books. He served as an archaeologist and a member of the Associates for Biblical Research (ABR) team, a role in which he was able to organize trips for seminary students to archaeological excavation sites. Dr. Mora treasured the opportunities at AIIAS while working with other archaeologists on various archaeological excavations: Betsaida, 2010; Khirbet el-Maqatir (biblical Ai); Magdala, 2014; Lachish, 2015, and Shiloh, 2017. He has also traveled with students on several biblical tours: Egypt and Israel, 2010; Turkey (Istanbul and Asia Minor), 2013; Israel, 2017; and Egypt, Israel, and Jordan, 2019.
