ACCT 501 Accounting for Managers

About the Course

This course provides graduate students with a comprehensive understanding of the accounting concepts necessary for effective financial management. Students will learn the complete accounting cycle, from analyzing transactions to preparing and interpreting financial statements. The course also covers budgeting, internal control systems, and the application of the time value of money in financial planning.

Course Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the students will be able to:

  1. Apply the complete accounting cycle by analyzing, recording, posting, adjusting, and closing transactions leading to the preparation of accurate financial statements.
  2. Interpret and evaluate financial statements to support informed decision-making and assess the financial position and performance of organizations.
  3. Assess and recommend internal control systems to safeguard assets, ensure the reliability of financial reporting, and promote compliance with policies and regulations.
  4. Design and analyze budgets, with emphasis on the unique characteristics of budgeting in non-profit organizations, including resource allocation and stewardship accountability.
  5. Utilize time value of money concepts (present value, future value, annuities, and related applications) in financial planning, investment, and decision-making scenarios.
  6. Demonstrate professional judgment and ethical responsibility in addressing accounting and financial reporting issues within both profit and non-profit organizational contexts.

JASMIN E. TUAPIN, CPA, MBA, PhD


Dr. Jasmin E. Tuapin is an assistant professor of Business at the Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies (AIIAS) Graduate School, where she teaches courses in accounting, finance, and corporate governance, and serves as the director for the MBA and MSA online programs. Dr. Tuapin is a certified public accountant in the Philippines. She has worked as an accountant in both the retail industry and non-profit organizations, as an NGO board member, and as a tax consultant. Drawing from her professional background, she enriches classroom learning with practical applications and real-world insights. Her service as the Executive Secretary of the Asian Qualitative Research Association reflects her active involvement in advancing research and scholarly collaboration.
