Accreditation plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality of high er education institutions and their programs. In this context, the Association for Theological Education in Southeast Asia (ATESEA) conducted an accreditation visit to the AIIAS Seminary. The evaluation took place from March 23-26 of this year. The ATESEA accreditation team comprised four distinguished members: Ms. Christabel Wong, Head Librarian at Seminari Theo loji Malaysia (Malaysia); Dr. Ben Ngaayan, Faculty at St. Andrew’s Theological Seminary (Philippines); Dr. Saw Augurlion, Academic Dean at Myanmar Institute of Theology (Myanmar); and Dr. Jozef Hehanus sa, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Theology, Duta Wacana Christian University (Indonesia). The accreditation team’s comprehensive evaluation included meetings with the local accreditation committee, AIIAS administrators, department heads, program directors, students, and alumni. The accreditors also conducted class room observations before concluding their assessment with an exit report presentation.
The ATESEA accreditation team delivered their exit report with highly positive results, identifying only a few areas for improvement. Some program areas received zero recommendations for change. This preliminary report grants accreditation to all Seminary programs, including the Doctor in Missiology, which has now received its first accreditation. As the chair of the Seminary Accreditation Team, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the seminary faculty and institutional leaders who provided support and guidance throughout the seven month preparation process. The list of commendations and praise for the Seminary and the institution was extensive. ATESEA expressed clear satisfaction with the Seminary’s work, and the prepared reports provided substantial evidence supporting the evaluators’ positive assessment. AIIAS received the complete list of commendations and recommendations in the ATESEA report sent to the President. The recommendations will be addressed in the coming months.
