AIIAS President Appeals for More Focus on Mission

“There is nothing more central to AIIAS than missions. Mission is what we are about,” said AIIAS President, Dr. Stephen Guptill, to the AIIAS academic community on Monday during the mission emphasis week.

The General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (GC) has recognized a great need for mission training in a strategic way. As a GC institution, AIIAS plays a key role in preparing leaders who are mission-driven.

Dr. Guptill challenged students to address the need for mission work in their respective areas once they accept church leadership positions.

The mission emphasis week is an annual event, which highlights mission activities and opportunities through testimonies, devotionals and engagement.

The Philippine Frontier Missions was one group that showcased their mission engagement. They shared a compelling story of how they won the hearts of an Aeta, an indigenous people of the Philippines, family through ministering to a woman during delivery.

“You should decide on how you are going to engage in missions,” encouraged Dr. Guptill, who called for determination and practical actions. “Support the jail ministry, conduct a branch Sabbath School or involve yourselves in satellite ministry.”

AIIAS offers mission degrees at both master’s and doctoral levels to equip and sharpen professionals’ missiological skills.

AIIAS is a graduate school that offers masters and doctorate degrees in four main areas: business, education, public health, and religion. It is run by the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Our mission is to develop leaders through distinctively Seventh-day Adventist graduate education, excelling in spirituality, scholarship, and service.
